Festival of nine nights |
Navratri means nine nights. Navratri is a famous Indian festival celebrated through India. These nine nights are dedicated to Goddess Durga, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati. They are worshipped by all Hindus for these nine days. This festival is also celebrated as good over evil. Everywhere there is festivity and people move about in their most colourful and best clothes. These are the most auspicious days to takes decisions related to purchases, fixing dates for a wedding and getting admissions in schools with the blessings of the Goddesses.
In the northern states of India, Ram Leela is held in many places, depicting the Ramayan. The main course of depiction is Ram's victory over Ravana and freeing Sita from the clutches of Ravana. Many hymns are sung and enjoyed. Here again, it is the victory of Good over evil. On the tenth day, huge effigies of Ravana are put to flames and people flock to see the sight.

- An interesting celebration is seen in the south of India, especially in Tamilnadu and that is called GOLU.
Golu is kept in mostly all house.Here nine steps are formed and each step is set up with idols Gods and Goddesses. The first three steps depict Gods and Goddesses, the next three steps depict warriors and the third three steps depict the common people.![]() |

Many places, especially in the western part of India Dandiya a dance form is held during Navratri. This dance form depicts Durga Goddesses. The dandiya sticks represent the sword in her hand. Again depicting Good over evil.
